Approaching the Unknown is an upcoming science fiction drama about the first man that will set foot on Mars.
Watching the trailer you will notive influences from several movies. You get the drama elements and indie style from Moon, but also from last year’s Martian where astronauts’ solitude is explored as well. It also feels like a low budget Interstellar.
Anyhow, it looks really promising and maybe a hidden gem for 2016 among the more obvious anticipated blockbuster. It won’t make a lot of money, but it will win over the hearts of critics and audiences.
Mark Strong as Captain William D. Stanaforth, Sanaa Lathan as Captain Emily Maddox, Charles Baker as Captain Frank Worsely, Anders Danielsen Lie as Greenstreet and Bettina Skye as Nasa Technician.
Captain William Stanaforth is on a one-way solo mission to take the first steps in colonizing Mars. Like all pioneers throughout history, Stanaforth will face insurmountable odds and life and death decisions as he rockets bravely through space.
Approaching the unknown is directed and written by Mark Elijah Rosenberg. Premieres on 3 June 2016.
Criminal is an upcoming science fiction movie about a CIA operative who dies while on a mission and then his memories and thoughts are transferred to a death-row convict.
Ryan Reynolds plays the CIA agent, while Kevin Costner is the convict whose mind will be populated with the agents memories. The final goal of this is to prevent a dangerous hacker known as a The Dutchman, to start WWIII. Gal Gadot‘s character plays the CIA agent’s wife.
This mean there will be a bunch of split scenes, starting with Reynolds continuing with Costner and vice versa.
Gal Gadot as Jill Pope, Ryan Reynolds as Bill Pope, Alice Eve as Marta Lynch, Gary Oldman as Quaker Wells, Kevin Costner as Jericho Stewart, Tommy Lee Jones as Dr. Franks and Antje Traue.
Crime is directed by Ariel Vromen. Premieres on 15 April 2016.
Here comes The Huntsman: Winter’s War, the sequel to the 2012 hit movie Snow White and The Huntsman. Only this time, without Kristen Stewart.
Technically this is not a sequel but rather a spin off since in the first movie Snow White was the first titular character and the Huntsman was appended to her name, now The Huntsman is the title character and the movie is dubbed Winter’s War. It is also very likely that the producers are trying to keep distance form the 2012 movie by adding in the trailer “From the producers of Maleficent“.
In the sequel we meet Freya (Emily Blunt), the sister of the evil queen Ravenna and together they will fight the Huntsman, played again by Chris Hemsworth and the warrior woman Sara, played by Jessica Chastain.
Somehow I feel like Emily Blunt would have been a better warrior and Jessica Chastain a better ice queen. The movie also gets a serious Frozen vibe, with Freya being an ice queen.
When Freya, a young queen who can freeze her enemies in ice, learns of the demise of her sister, the evil Ravenna , she summons her soldiers to recover the Magic Mirror. After resurrecting Ravenna, the two wicked sisters amass a seemingly indestructible army that threatens the kingdom. Only the skills of Eric and Sara, two warriors who defied Freya by falling in love, can save this enchanted land from the forces of darkness.
Emily Blunt as Freya, Jessica Chastain as Sara, Charlize Theron as Ravenna, Chris Hemsworth as The Huntsman and Sam Claflin as William.
